It's
Clear--We'll Be Streaming More
Than Surfing on the Internet!
The
two large banners strung high above the entrance of the Los Angeles
Convention Center were tell-tale signs of what awaited the 15,000
or so attendees at the Internet
World Spring 2002 and Streaming
Media West 2002 four-day conferences and exhibitions held in
concert this past week, April 22-26, 2002. Although the turnout
was down from the record numbers of the past high-rolling years,
those inside were not disappointed. At the Exhibition Hall, attendees
saw the latest technological products and services, and the cutting-edge
advances of streaming and digital media, the latest wave to hit
the Internet.
Internet World Spring 2002 offered
professionals a variety of forums, including e-commerce strategies
and solutions, content and knowledge management, wireless, security,
ISP, web services, security, CRM, and web marketing and online advertising.
Streaming Media West 2000 provided forums on three-tracks: specialty
MPEG-4, interactive advertising, and beginner’s seminar. Both conferences
featured lunchtime forums and roundtables where industry professionals
could network with each other.
During the keynote addresses, business
leaders gave their views of the industry in this economic downturn,
and many showcased how streaming and digital media have been integrated
in their products, services, and day-to-day operations. The keynote
speakers included, Jocelyne Attal, VP Integration Middleware Marketing,
WebSphere, IBM Software Group, Jonathan Taplin, CEO Intertainer,
Katrina Roche, CMO, i2 Technologies, Inc., Robert Glaser, Chairman
and CEO RealNetworks, Inc., Craig Conway, President and CEO, PeopleSoft,
Inc., Robert Koenen, President, MPEG4, Sr. Director, Tech Initiatives,
Intertrust Technologies Corp., Shelby Bonnie, Chairman and CEO CNET
Networks, Inc., Mark Jarvis, Sr. Vice President and Chief Marketing
Officer, Oracle Corporation, and Andy Schuon, President and CEO,
Pressplay. Penton Media, a global, business-to-business, technological
media-company, produced both conferences.
